The Tower in love, and what actually comes down

The Tower in a love reading is a sudden collapse, and softening that would waste your evening. The useful part is what collapses. Watch the order things leave the building in. The crown goes first, blown clear off the top, and a crown sat on the tower rather than holding it up. Pulled on a relationship you are still inside, this card very often names the fall of something you believed about the two of you, and a belief can come down while both people stay standing. Sometimes it is the relationship. More often it is the description.

A tower is built. Somebody chose the site, cut the stone, stopped when it was tall enough, and whatever is coming apart here was put up on purpose, usually by the two of you.

The crown is the first thing off, the highest thing on it, and the only part that was never structural. A crown goes on top when you want the thing recognised.

The lightning comes from outside the frame. Nobody called it, which works two ways at once. It takes the blame off you, and the forecast off the reader.

So which of the things you built is the crown.

Nearly always a sentence. We are the solid ones. He would never. Sentences like that get made about a couple, usually by other people first, and then the couple starts living inside it and arranging things so it stays true.

This card goes at the sentence.

Which is why people pull it in a week where nothing has happened, and others in a week where the ground has genuinely gone. Something arrived from outside, usually information, and the description you were living under stopped fitting. A relationship can survive that. It cannot go back underneath a description that is on the floor with both of you looking at it.

reversed, which is where most of these pulls sit

Turn it over and the reading changes shape rather than flipping. Three things it can say, unequally common.

The delayed one comes up most, by a distance. The strike happened and the building has not been allowed to fall. Somebody is holding it up, and after long enough the holding stops registering as effort and starts registering as the relationship. It looks like a good weekend that took four days of managing to produce, or a woman who has become fluent in what not to say at her own kitchen table.

The tell is not the arguing. It is the absence of it, in a house that plainly has something to argue about. And delay costs more than the fall, because a collapse is one bad stretch while holding one off has no end date and no witness.

The resisted one is shorter and louder. The information landed, and rather than prop the roof somebody has gone to war with the weather.

The third gets missed and it is the kindest. The Tower already fell. Reversed sometimes lands on people who came through the worst month of their relationship a year and a half ago and are still braced, still reading a quiet evening as the approach to something. Check the date before you brace.

what a card about a building has no way of knowing

Notice what this card is made of. Stone, weather, a structural failure, and every object in it a thing rather than a person.

So when what you want is the specific, and with this card it usually is, there is nothing to hand over. Where he is this evening, who he is with, what is on his phone. A building coming apart holds no vocabulary for any of it, and a reader who supplies some anyway has stopped reading. The invention is not the expensive part. Living next to it for a year is.

Because the fire in those windows sends people somewhere frightening: this is not a card about anybody's health, nobody here reads it as one, and if that is the real fear tonight it belongs with a doctor.

the sentence that was sitting on top

Maren takes this card off him inside the first minute, which surprises people who arrived certain it was about him.

Her opening move is to ask for the sentence. What would you have said about the two of you to a stranger at a party a month ago, in the words you would have used. Whatever comes back is the crown, and people hear themselves say it and go quiet.

Then she goes after strain, and she wants a count. What have the two of you stopped talking about. Not the big argument, because you were both performing in that one. The subjects that went quiet without anybody deciding they would. Each one is a place where something is held up by hand, and a building with three of those in it is not solid, it is managed.

On a reversed pull she goes at the maintenance rather than the event. Who does it, how long it has run, what it takes out of an ordinary week. That is almost never both people, and she says which rather than leaving it hanging.

What she will not do is give you a month, and she says why. A reader who dates lightning has made the date up.
